Do you ever find yourself wondering about the story behind the story, how a product came to life, why it was developed in the first place, or how an unknown person goes to bed one night as a regular civilian and wakes up famous? Yeah, me neither! Ha!
But in all seriousness, I find in most cases that others’ stories are incredibly fascinating, and while I personally don’t think that ours is necessarily one of those stories, many of you have asked about how we got into the Whole Food Plant Based lifestyle. To be fair, the inquiries are probably more from curiosity about the mental state of a group of people who have given up just about everything they’ve eaten their whole lives and everything they’ve been taught to believe about food, go completely vegan and decide to make a documentary about it. Well, not about us specifically, but about the journey itself! After 20 months, looking back, it still seems a bit surreal to us!
It all started when a friend recommended our company, Garden Fresh Media, to Dr. Michael Hollie who was instrumental in starting a program called Dinner with the Doctor, a free monthly event open to the community that offers a lecture and a free Whole Food Plant Based meal complete with recipes and lecture notes! Dr. Hollie was interested in having us create some visual assets for his presentations, so we sat down together over brunch to discuss…
We were pretty impressed when told “you can eat as much as you want of everything spread before you.” Whole grain waffles with fruit topping, roasted white and sweet potatoes, tofu quiche with black rice crust and tons of fresh fruit. The best part about it was the fact that none of it would put weight on or clog arteries! Seriously? How could that be? Thus, a four-and-a-half-hour discussion began that ended with the question “have you seen ‘Forks over Knives’?"
For the EATING YOU ALIVE team, that’s where our story begins, so stay tuned! But, what about you? How did your health journey start? Or maybe it’s just starting! Either way, we’d love to hear about the one thing that convinced you that a plant based lifestyle was a path worth investigating.
